Case Study: Proof Exercise Isn’t the Answer to Fast Weight Loss

This blog post may cause some problems.
I admit that in advance.
I’m sure that some people won’t agree with
what I’m about to share with you.
The New Year has arrived and most people
have a goal to lose weight.
A year ago, I did two experiments on exercise,
diet and weight loss.
I wanted to know for myself what really works
best for weight loss.
Here’s exactly what I discovered…

Weight loss occurs fastest when you change
what you choose to eat to low-glycemic foods.

Not from exercise alone.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge advocate for regular
exercise. But what I propose is change what you choose
to eat first. You will see results fast.
Then slowly add in the exercise later.

EXPERIMENT: #1: Cardio Exercise & light to moderate
weight training only. 30 days. 5 days per week.

When:
Start: Nov. 1, 2010 End: Nov. 31, 2010

What I did:
I did interval cardio exercise 45 minutes per day/
5 days per week for 30 days. I did 15 minutes of
light to moderate strength training with weights.
3,5, & 8 lb. weights. Alternating upper body on
Mon & Wed. Lower body on Tues & Thurs. Abs on Friday.

Note: No personal trainer. No change in my diet.
No Thingloss. Just hard core cardio exercise.

Result: I gained weight

Pro’s:
My % of body fat went down 2 points. I felt better.
My muscles felt stronger. I had more energy &
mental clarity.

Con’s:
I gained weight. I’m guessing because muscle weights
more than fat. I felt dissapointed because I had just
killed myself with hard cardio for 30 days at the gym
and saw no weight loss results (The result I was
seeking was weight loss). And that didn’t happen.

Conclusion: I think this is why most people start a New
Years Resolution to lose weight and drop out within the
first 2-3 weeks. They hit the gym to exercise but when
they don’t see faster results for their efforts they
feel like a failure so they quit exercising and never
stick to their weight loss goals. I think this may be
contributing to the yo-yo diet effect.

EXPERIMENT #2: 7 Day Detox Diet Menu Plan

When: Start: Mon. Feb. 7, 2011 End: Sun. Feb. 13, 2011

What I did: I followed a 7 Day Detox Diet Menu Plan
(low- glycemic foods) & Used Thingloss daily as directed.

Result: I lost 6 lbs in 7 days! It works!

Pro’s: I lost 6 lbs in 7 days. I didn’t feel hungry.
I felt like my efforts had paid off because I saw
results fast. So I felt encouraged to stick with it.
I slowly added in moderate exercise to my new eating plan.
And I kept losing more weight. Thingloss really helped
curb my cravings in the first few days, which seemed
to be the hardest.

Con’s: The first two days were hard to adjust to eating
different foods.

Conclusion:
*Choosing low-glycemic foods to eat will help you lose
weight faster. However, If you go back to poor eating
habits after a detox diet you will gain the weight back
fast. It is a life style change that works long term.
I had to create new habits and learn to fall in love
with good food.
